NEW HOBBII MYSTERY MAKE-ALONG
WE HAVE TEAMED UP AGAIN TO LAUNCH ANOTHER MYSTERY MAKE ALONG!!
I have been pretty quiet online lately and a lot of that is due to working on this big exciting project that I have been cooking up with Hobbii! After the success of last years #NoShadesOfGreyMAL we have teamed up again to bring you another super fun Mystery Make Along to work on together this Autumn!
I have been working away on a brand new design that again comes in both Crochet and Knit, and I have to say we have got the 2 versions looking soooo so similar this time!
This year's Mystery project is for a Winter Sweater which has been broken down into 7 bite sized chunks that will be released weekly from September 5th. The project is designed to take you from zero to hero, so is perfect for new and experienced makers alike. If you can do the basic stitches, this is a great project to help you learn more! The pattern is full of photos and each part comes with a how to video to guide to help you through every step of the make! Plus one of the big bonuses with a Make Along- there's also a whole community of makers working on the project at the same time and the Hobbii Facebook group is an amazing place to share tips and tricks as well as get any help along the way during the project.
The concept of a mystery make along was brand new to me when we started the first MAL together, so if it's also new to you- let me break it down and give you some teasers of the new project! As the project is a Mystery this means you don't know exactly what you're making till the very end, each week a new section is revealed to you. However I can give you some teasers to give an insight into the feel of the project. I love that with a mystery project it helps you try out new techniques that maybe you might not have given a go to before! Even if the concept is a bit nerve wracking for me as a designer- it’s really special to have people trust a design they haven’t seen! But if I do say so myself, this design is really good and so perfect to brighten up the winter season!!
This Make along is for a really special winter warmer, that perfect sweater to brighten up those cooler greyer days! The design comes in 3 sizes, size 1, 2 and 3. This fits between a XS and 5XL and is for a unisex fit oversized sweater that is super soft with a bit of sparkle. Also to veer off my usual love of the square, this design is made in continuous panels (front back and sleeves) so if you hate sewing up, have no fear there's not very much!
Our Make along is called the après-ski MAL and that's because our jumper design has been heavily influenced by vintage ski wear and knits, i love the colour combinations from 70s and 80s ski wear and the amazing ski fair isle jumpers from the 60s.
When picking your kit you might want a bit of help with choosing your size, the sweater comes in 3 sizes, and is designed to have a oversized unisex fit. But you can pick whatever style you feel suits you best, especially if you're in between sizes.Do you like a slimmer fit or prefer a baggier option?
The flat width of each size goes from 60cm to 70cm to 80cm- my top tip for picking your fit with a mystery project is find your favorite sweater in your wardrobe that you love the fit of and measure it flat- you can use this as a guide to help with picking your perfect size option.
Plus we have shown the sweater blanked out over the 3 sizes to help you pick your fit, here you can see a size 1 on chest size 96.5 cm, on a size 2 on chest size 122cm and size 3 on chest size 130 cm, so i hope that helps thinking about picking your fit!
For this Make along we have managed to get the final look of the pieces looking sooo similar, which is really fun. For this project I wanted to include a new technique each week and also ones that worked both in Knit and crochet.
The project includes more simple elements to start using the basic stitches and builds, working with colour work- slip stitch colour work for knit and spike stitch colour work for crochet, raised colour changing details, Fair Ilse Knitting and Taspastry Crochet, bobbles, rib, moss stitch, working flat and working in the round, increasing and decreasing, shaping, mattress stitch and embroidery elements using chain stitch or surface slip stitch crochet- so lots of fun different techniques to learn and try out!
These come together to make a really vibrant and rich striped sweater that has a Fair Isle feel to it, mixing texture, colour and pattern to create a contemporary twist on a classic style.
Now the big decision left that you might have is to pick knit or crochet?! If you're on the fence between the two styles, in look they are very very similar. The big difference between them is the knit has a slightly more drapey feel and is lighter in weight, with a bit more fluffiness and a tad more sparkle. The crochet has a slightly thicker feel with sturdier stitches, and although has some fluffiness and sparkle, it has just a little bit less than the knit version. Both are super super soft and so nice to wear, so if you can't pick just one, you could just make one of each!!
Hopefully that has given you a good insight into what I can already share about our mystery project, and I can't wait to start making our actual sweaters together in september!
Remember to sign up to the MAL landing page to get sent the Pattern each week and I also highly recommend joining the Hobbii Make along Facebook group as it's a great place to share your progress and chat with fellow makers working on the project!
The Project Kits have gone Live from today! You can also sign up and join in using your own stash for the project, but as it's a Mystery make full yarn information isn't revealed till the end of the project.
SO EXCITED to make this project all with you, and I hope you are as excited as me for the brand new #AprèsSkiMAL !
